A Landmark Auction Event for the State of Ohio

.

Classic Motorcar Auctions will hold their first event, this weekend, August 29th & 30th, 2009 at the John S. Knight Center in downtown Akron, Ohio. Not only is the “Ohio Summer Classic Auction” CMA’s first event, but this is the first time that an auction of this caliber will ever be held in the state of Ohio.

Prior to a recent change in the vehicle consignment law, all public classic car consignment auctions were illegal throughout the entire state, according to Megan Boyd, CMA’s Director of Marketing and Public Relations.

With the help of Senator Kirk Schuring, Megan and the owners of Classic Motorcar Auctions (Bob Lichty and Gary Brown) were able to have Ohio’s vehicle consignment law changed. Public collector car auctions, similar to those held in venues such as Scottsdale, Palm Beach, Pebble Beach, London and Toronto, are now permitted to be held.

“Being long-time car enthusiasts, we wanted to bring that venue to Ohio,” says Megan, who is a collector car owner and Grundy client herself. She adds that Classic Motorcar Auctions is delighted to bring the excitement of a nationally significant high end classic car auction to such a “strong collector car state.”

Today, after years of working towards legalizing public classic car auctions, Classic Motorcar Auctions is delighted to kick off such sales in Ohio, with this weekend’s event.

“This sale offers one of the highest quality collections of eclectic antique, classic, and modified vehicles 1983 and older,” adds Bob Lichty, President Classic Motorcar Auctions, in a press release from CMA.

Highlights of the sale will include a 1913 Buick Model 4 Pick-Up, a 1935 Packard 1201 Convertible Victoria, a 1957 Oldsmobile Super 88 Convertible and a 1965 Mexican-manufactured Ford Mustang.

The 1913 Buick Model 4 is an Open Express Delivery truck that has been flawlessly restored (2002) and finished in dark green and black. It is powered by a 141ci 4-cylinder engine, with 3-speed manual transmission. This rare, award-winning truck has been driven very little, thus preserving the restoration.

Another highlight of the sale is a rare 1935 Packard Eight Model 1201 Dietrich bodied Convertible Victoria. This spectacular car was the recipient of a full frame off restoration, in 2000, and has been well-maintained since.  It is powered by a 320ci (130hp) Straight Eight Flathead and 3-speed transmission. It is finished in brilliant red, with tan leather interior.

Representing the fabulous fifties is a stunning 1957 Oldsmobile Super 88 Convertible, with the rare factory J2 option (three 2-barrel carburetors on a 371ci V8). Options on the car include automatic transmission, power steering, power brakes and a power top. It is one of only 7100 convertibles built; very few were built with the J2 option. The car has had a complete frame off restoration, restoring the beautiful Alcan white exterior and red leather interior.

One of the most unique cars offered at the auction is the Mexican-manufactured 1965 Ford Mustang. It is one of only a few hundred Mustangs manufactured in Mexico for Mexican consumption. It is powered by a 289ci V8 (of unrated horsepower), with an automatic transmission. Items unique to its Mexican heritage include bumper guards, casting marks in Spanish, unusual electrical components and a speedometer in kilometers versus miles per hour. It has received a frame up restoration, complete with dark blue paint and interior— both exclusive to its Mexican manufacturing.

Other iconic and rare classic vehicles to be featured at the 2009 Ohio Summer Classic Car Auction will include a 1937 Lincoln K Judkins 5-passenger Berline, 1957 Chevrolet 3100 Pick-Up, 1953 Packard Caribbean Convertible, 1934 Rolls-Royce 20/25 Torpedo Tourer, 1969 Pontiac GTO Judge, 1953 Canadian-built Meteor Crestliner Sunliner Convertible and a 1938 Studebaker President.

The Ohio Summer Classic Car Auction weekend opens to the public Saturday, at 9am, with a memorabilia auction beginning at 10am and vehicle auction at 11am. On Sunday, memorabilia will begin 11am, with the vehicle auction beginning at noon.  Spectators are welcome; admission will be $15 Saturday, $20 for a weekend pass or $10 for Sunday only.  Free parking is available on the street or adjoining parking deck after 5pm Friday through the weekend.
