15th Annual Ft. Lauderdale Collector Car Auction

The 15th Annual Ft. Lauderdale Beach Florida Collector Car Auction, Presented by Dave Rupp and Mike Flynn, will be held on January 2-4, 2009 at the War Memorial Auditorium in beautiful Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.

Grundy Worldwide has continuously supported this exhilarating event that is expected to draw several thousand buyers this year, as an estimated 350 collector cars are auctioned over the three days.

The quality of the vehicles that are hitting the auction block in 2009 is outstanding. And, Dave Rupp explains that this event is not about quantity, but rather that remarkable quality.

“I could auction 1000 cars if I wanted,” says Dave. “But, you can only do so many in three days.  And, these are heavy-duty cars. This may be one of the greatest line-ups in the history of the collector car market.”

And, he would know.

Dave Rupp has been involved in the collector car hobby for 40 years. Over the years, he has owned countless specialty vehicles; he currently has a collection of “multiple vehicles”— and, that is all he will divulge. Whether he is out cruisin’ the streets in his Viper or traveling cross-country in his Volkswagen Beetle, Dave is a car-guy all the way. His background includes drag racing, owning race tracks, car-collecting and holding auctions since the mid 1980’s.

Dave started his original collector car auction in 1985, at the Miami Beach Convention Center. He says that the very first event was held on New Years Eve and became a gigantic two-day, themed extravaganza at which 982 cars were in the auction line-up. He had found something that worked; and it worked in a big way.

Dave says that he has been a promoter his whole life, with roots in the music industry, as well as the world of cool cars. He has been promoting this car auction for many years, and is excited to hold the 15th annual event in Ft. Lauderdale. (The event moved locations in the mid-90s, due to bad press that the city of Miami received, regarding street crimes.)

Dave has great expectations for this year’s event, in particular.

“I am excited and want to see all the guys who love the cars fight over them,” he says. “And, this Cobra. It is one of the most valuable Cobras out there. It has 3800 miles on it, and the seller is the original owner. It’s original to the dust on the tires. It is an incredible car.”

This 1967 “427” SC Cobra SCX 3021 (see photo) is being sold at no reserve to the highest bidder, regardless of price. However, some have estimated that it could sell for as much as $5-10 million.

Information on the Cobra, along with other vehicles that are to be auctioned at the Ft. Lauderdale event, can be found by visiting the online catalog of 250 cars by clicking here: Online Auction Catalog. “We look for the best,” says Dave. “And, there’s no phony hype. We run an honest auction.”

Grundy Worldwide will be at this event, for your insurance needs. We hope to see you there!
